The excitement was visible on the faces that climbed out of cars and mini-buses. Today was the start of the second soccer4children camp, an initiative aimed at teaching young South African boys life-skills and spiritual truths while they enjoy soccer training from some of our countries best coaches. Since soccer is their passion, soccer4children aims to make this an unforgettable experience! At the end of the week, each boy will go back to their communities, equipped with life skills, spiritual skills and a whole lot of new soccer skills!

After registration had finished, 66 excited boys gathered round to meet the organisers and coaches. Elvis Mvulane, National Director of Walk Thru the Bible and soccer4children started the camp in prayer. Martin Deacon, CEO and founder of soccer4children welcomed the boys and introduced the coaches.

The second soccer4children (www.soccer4children.org) camp took place from 9 – 14 January 2012. In this week young boys from poorer communities got the chance to receive life coaching from trained leadership teachers, and professional soccer training by some of our country’s top coaches! All this, while enjoying a fun time at the Eikenhof LifeChange Centre.

On the first day of the camp, Martin Deacon, CEO of soccer4children gathered the boys for a short time-management session. “A winner is someone who is on time – who wants to be a winner?” asked Martin Deacon. With the soccer4children soccer clinic drawing to a close, days 9 and 10 seemed to melt into each other. To an outside observer, the children appear to have known each other for much longer than the ten days the clinic had been going.
