The excitement was visible on the faces that climbed out of cars and mini-buses. Today was the start of the second soccer4children camp, an initiative aimed at teaching young South African boys life-skills and spiritual truths while they enjoy soccer training from some of our countries best coaches. Since soccer is their passion, soccer4children aims to make this an unforgettable experience! At the end of the week, each boy will go back to their communities, equipped with life skills, spiritual skills and a whole lot of new soccer skills!

Trained in soccer – Coached in life!
After registration had finished, 66 excited boys gathered round to meet the organisers and coaches. Elvis Mvulane, National Director of Walk Thru the Bible and soccer4children started the camp in prayer. Martin Deacon, CEO and founder of soccer4children welcomed the boys and introduced the coaches.

After a hearty lunch, each boy was presented with a watch of their own, kindly sponsored by Nedbank. Beaming with delight, one boy exclaimed that this is the first watch he has ever owned. Making a pledge to the head coach: Khulu, they all promised to make punctuality a part of their life! Thank you Nedbank for blessing them with this gift.
Now it was time for soccer talk – the coached gathered all the boys and picked their teams. This was a good time to break the ice and get to know each other. What better way to have fun and get to know each other than good old team building! For the next two hours they played games, volleyball and swam.
After supper the day ended with a video message from Dr. Danny Jordaan, from the founding of soccer4children in December 2009; and a screening of the thought provoking movie ‘Beat the Drum’.
Day 2 was going to be filled with coaching and soccer matches, so they needed to be ready…!
